Before Your Procedure

Preparing for Your Day at Dalcross 

Fasting Instructions

  • No food from midnight the night before your procedure.
  • Plain water only — up to 2 hours before your admission time.
  • No chewing gum, lollies, or lozenges on the morning of surgery.
  • Diabetic patients: specific instructions will be given by your surgeon or anaesthetist.

Continue Taking

Blood pressure medications, heart medications, thyroid medications — take with a small sip of water on the morning of surgery unless instructed otherwise.

Blood thinners — discuss with your surgeon

Warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, rivaroxaban, apixaban — do not stop without discussing with your surgeon and GP first.

What to Bring

Documents

  • Medicare card
  • Private health fund card
  • Photo ID
  • Completed pre-admission forms

Personal Items

  • Comfortable, loose clothing
  • Current glasses (if applicable)
  • Medications in original packaging
  • A support person to take you home
  • Sunglasses for post-op comfort
